Dear Parents,
It is very quiet throughout the halls today. Six classes are on a field trip. Grades K, 1, 3, 4, and 5 have gone to the Louisville Zoo. The eighth graders are at Graham Memorial Park for a day of fun and picnicking. It is a preview of what it will be like in a few days.
We have the last group of PeaceBuilders for May. They are: PK -- Cameron Daniels; K -- Jessy Castillo; 1 -- Emily Gordon; 2 -- Alexis Hayden; 3 -- Luke Jones; 4 -- John David May; 5 -- Caleb Winebrenner; 6 -- Victoria Das; 7 -- Blake Blandford; 8 -- Joseph Elder. Congratulations to these students and to all who have earned that title this year!
The eighth grade will have their banquet tonight at 6:30. There are a lot of awards that will be given to them tonight. They have been outstanding young people this year. They accepted the challenge of being the leaders and did a great job. They were impressive in the way they worked together and the unity they showed among themselves. We will miss them, but we know that they will continue to grow and mature as they move on to high school. On Monday night they will join the St. Augustine Alumni. Thank you, eighth grade, for the blessings you have been to the St. Augustine School and Parish communities.
The Honors Assembly will begin at 1:00 P.M. tomorrow in the gym. All are welcome to attend. Again, there will be many awards. Many students have distinguished themselves this year.
In the folders today, there is a notice about the Booster Club Banquet that will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 18, in the cafeteria. This is for ANY STUDENT that participated in a sports program at St. A. Instructions about food are given in the notice.
I have written in several newsletters that the entire building will be rewired this summer. The company that is doing the work will come into St. A the week of May 26.
This work will take several weeks and will require some changes during that time. The teachers will need to get all paperwork done and prepare their rooms for the summer in a shorter time than usual. Amanda and I hope to be able to keep working in the office for awhile. When it reaches a point that we have to vacate the building, we will move necessary equipment and materials to the Parish Hall. Shades of the summer of 2003! This is how I spent the first summer at St. A, working in a small room off the Parish Hall. That was the summer of the Great Renovation.
We will be working during most of June and at least the last part of July. If you have questions or need information, etc., you should be able to reach us by phone or coming to the Parish Hall if we have moved out of the school building. It won’t be the most convenient, but it will work. Just think what it will be like when everything is finished.
Of course, with the building out of commission most of the summer, the monthly Bingo on the first Sunday will not be held in June and July. We hope to be able to resume in August. The parents who will be assigned to work the August Bingo will be notified. Remember, every family must participate in this fundraiser because every family benefits from it.
The plans are to mail the report cards and the grades 3, 5, and 7 test results to you on or about May 27. All financial obligations must be settled by that time.
May 19 is the last day of school for the year. Dismissal will be at 3:00 P.M. The PTO is planning field day activities for the afternoon. Grades K-7 may have a jeans day on Monday.
This will be the last newsletter of the 2007-08 year. I want to thank all the parents for the support they have given to the staff and students of St. A. There have been many good things that have come to us this year. We have been blessed. Included in the folders is a brief recap of several of these blessings throughout the year.
My prayer is that all will have a safe, enjoyable, and happy summer and return in August filled with enthusiasm for the opportunity of a new year. God bless you!
